Project Management
I have self-managed several technical communication projects as an individual contributor in my professional life. I have also managed teams of communicators in my extracurricular life. In all cases, I have collaborated effectively with peers and subject matter experts to get the job done.

I have managed multiple projects for the Florida chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC).
From 2015 to 2018, I served as the Communications Chair and Newsletter Editor for Memo to Members, the chapter newsletter. This role required me to set monthly publication schedules, provide edits and feedback to article authors, and perform or delegate publication tasks such as email and social media distributions.

Other roles served included Acting President (2019), Vice-President (2018–2019), and Director-At-Large (2019–2020). I am most proud of my time as Vice-President because I helped to modernize the chapter so that it could become a true statewide chapter for Florida. This meant expanding online and hybrid offerings, as well as tailoring meeting content to member preferences based on a survey that I created. I also added more skills-based training to the meeting lineup. Furthermore, the modernized approach that I helped to introduce enabled the chapter to survive the challenges of COVID-19 the following year, since the infrastructure for online-only meetings was already in place.
I also organized the efforts of nine other authors so that we could submit a series of articles to STC’s official print and online publication, Intercom. These articles collectively advertised the 2018 Technical Communication Summit in Orlando. for which we were serving as host chapter. The following articles were part of this project.
Volume 64 Issue 10
Welcome to Orlando, Your 2018 Summit Destination by Alex Garcia/Michelle Flores
Volume 65 Issue 1
Student Volunteerism: The Future of STC by Bethany Aguad/Alexandra Engrand
Volume 65 Issue 2
On the Menu: Your Guide to Eating During the Orlando Summit by Emily Wells
While You’re Here… by Karen Lane/Tisa Newcombe
Stay Awhile by Dan Voss/Andrea Romero
In addition, I was a co-author of the Chapter Communication Strategy document that guided our new, modern approach to chapter communications. This article describes the history of chapter communications and part of my role in it.
I have received the following awards for my service to the chapter in these capacities.
2017 Chapter President’s Award
2018 STC Florida Chapter Service Award
2022 Distinguished Chapter Service Award (a society-level award)
Advocacy Projects
As an Advocacy Co-Director for Volusia Pride and an Advocacy Co-Chair for DeLand Pride, I have organized multiple projects and events.
I led the creation of our committee’s charter document, which includes our Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Values, 1 to 3-Year Goals, and 5-Year Goals.
I also lead the regular tracking of our goals, including which ones are in-progress and which ones have been completed.
One of these goals is to create and publish a suite of resource guides that benefit the LGBTQ+ community and their allies in the local area. Our documentation team reports up to me each month in our committee meetings. To date, the following three guides have already been published. How to legally change your name on your ID
(Note: This guide originally included information on changing gender markers as well, but was removed for the time being due to an executive order in Q1 2025. We are keeping apprised of changing legal situations to provide the best data possible to our community.)
How to respond if your child comes out (and show your LGBTQ+ child support)
More guides are currently in progress.
Another goal has been to hold annual Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Book Giveaway events that support the freedom to read and fight back against book censorship. I am the head organizer for these events. We held one in October 2023, during which we gave away over 400 books.
We repeated this event in September of 2024. In addition to giving away about as many books as the year before, we also hold multiple banned book readings throughout the giveaway to put a spotlight on the important works that are being forcibly removed from shelves.
